Supporting multilingual student writers: Inclusivity in classroom culture & assignment and syllabi design
Sponsor(s): Thompson Writing Program, Duke Learning Innovation, and Language, Arts and Media Program
Join us for our session on using inclusive pedagogy to support multilingual international students. Attending will help you to better understand intercultural norms for education and communication as well as best practices for enhancing inclusivity of multilingual students in writing courses and beyond.
We'll consider five aspects of cultural orientation, then discuss classroom scenarios that illustrate educational norms for the U.S. and an international culture. Best practices for enhancing participation, designing inclusive syllabi and assignments, and providing feedback will be addressed. The session will be facilitated by Rene Caputo, ESL Specialist with Duke's Thompson Writing Program.
