An investigation of leachable and bioaccessible polymer additives in microplastics
This work is motivated by the ubiquity of microplastic pollution, human lung exposure to microplastic fibers, and the breadth of polymer additive chemical space. This work both cast a broad net to investigate the breadth of leachable polymer additives in several reference polymers and focused on the bioaccessibility and toxicity of specific synthetic textile dyes (disperse azobenzene dyes) on microplastic fibers.
