ABOUT THE PLAY

Set in the 1990s United States, "She Kills Monsters" depicts characters who experience bullying and discrimination based on sexuality and gender identity and whose struggle with belonging, community and chosen family are explored through the lens of the fantasy realms of Dungeons & Dragons.

CASTING

This production is committed to diverse, inclusive casting. Every auditionee will be considered for every role. Most actors will have multiple roles, playing D&D fantasy characters and then characters who, in real life, attend high school or are recent high school graduates (with a few "adults" here and there).
Helpful information for your audition consideration

"She Kills Monsters" is written by Qui Nguyen (writer Disney's "Raya and the Last Dragon," Netflix's "The Society," co-founder of the OBIE winning Vampire Cowboys Theater Company NYC).
"She Kills Monsters" was nominated for a 2012 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding New York Theater, Off-Broadway.
"She Kills Monsters" has become one of the most produced plays in the United States, with almost 900 productions nationwide (from high school to professional companies) since it was made available for licensing in 2013.

AUDITION SCHEDULE

LOCATION: either BC127 or Shaefer Theater, Bryan Center. Arrive early. Ready to work.

SIGN UP: https://signup.com/go/WSkydfP

Tuesday April 12, 13, and 14: Open call, 6:30-10:30 p.m.

Saturday April 16: Callbacks: 1-5 p.m.

Open call auditions will be held each night in hour long blocks of six. All six auditionees should plan on being there for the entire hour. Sign up for slots as early as possible!
Preparation for the open call auditions

All 6 auditionees will take part in a physical warm-up led by fight choreographer Jeff Jones.
Everyone should prepare a 90-second contemporary monologue. Our preference is that this should be memorized. If you cannot memorize a 90-second piece, sign up anyway and bring 90 seconds of something that means something to you to read.
In the time left in the hour, director will have you read sides from the script.

PREPARATION FOR CALLBACKS

If you are called back, you must be available for a full group callback on Saturday, April 16 from 1 to 5 p.m.

This callback will be reading from the script and physical group movement/fight auditions.
