Band Auditions: "Rent" by Jonathan Larson

Duke students interested in playing in the band for the Department of Theater Studies and Hoof 'n' Horn's Spring Mainstage co-production are invited to audition in person or remotely by video submission. Students who can play bass, drums, keyboard, and guitar (electric and/or acoustic) are especially encouraged to try out for the show.

Please bring or record 30 seconds of solo play from any rock song of the 80s or 90s. Musicians will also be asked to sight read an excerpt from the show. Additionally, drummers should be prepared to demonstrate an 8th note groove, four to the floor, and a 16th note groove (with fills).

Recorded band auditions are due by Friday, October 21, 5 p.m. via email to Director of Theater Thomas Quintas (thomas.quintas@duke.edu). Please use the subject heading "Rent Band Audition."

In person band auditions will be held Saturday, October 22, 12 - 5 p.m. in Brody Theater (Branson Hall 100, East Campus). Sign up for live band auditions at this link: https://signup.com/go/ojeuTdy. No sign-ups are necessary for recorded submissions.

Students selected to play in the band have the option of enrolling in a credited class THEATRST 211 / MUSIC 218 / DANCE 211 Musical Theater Workshop: Performance in Spring 2023 via permission number, which carries an ALP code.

Run dates of the production are April 6 - 9 and 13 - 15, 2023 in Reynolds Industries Theater. The production will be directed by Broadway actor and Theater Studies Professor of the Practice Chauntee' Schuler Irving.
