Register now to join a book discussion on Zoom with Scott M. Moore, author of China's Next Act: How Sustainability and Technology Are Reshaping China's Rise and the World's Future (Oxford University Press, 2022).

Drawing from personal experiences and extensive scholarship, Moore (University of Pennsylvania) takes the reader from a relatively obscure U.S. State Department desk tasked with cooperating with China on environment, technology, environment and health into an era where these arenas have devolved into fierce US-China competition. Yet Moore makes clear that facing our greatest global challenges - addressing climate change, managing technology, and protecting public health - cannot be tackled without China, and he argues convincingly that these issues are in fact shaping China's relationships with societies around the world.

The book discussion will unpack these topics, ask what they mean for the future of global goods and great power competition, and conclude by looking ahead to potential U.S.-China engagement and rancor on the global stage.

The discussion is hosted by the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability at Duke University and moderated by Jackson Ewing, senior fellow at the Nicholas Institute and an adjunct associate professor at Duke's Sanford School of Public Policy.
