Ciompi Quartet Downtown Classics with Allan Ware, clarinetist

This short concert takes place at NorthStar Church of the Arts, 220 West Geer St., Durham. Program: Paul Ben-Haim: Clarinet Quintet, Op. 31A (1941), Arnold Schönberg: String Quartet No. 4, Op. 37 (1936).

Allan Ware was born in Raleigh, NC and studied at Davidson College, the University of North Carolina, and the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore. In 1980 he was awarded a Fulbright Grant for two years to study clarinet with Prof. Jost Michaels in Detmold, Germany, during which time he began performing exclusively as a solist and chamber musician, and has performed hundreds of recitals and solo appearances on the stages of leading European chamber music series.

Since its founding in 1965 by the renowned Italian violinist Giorgio Ciompi, the Ciompi Quartet of Duke University has delighted audiences and impressed critics around the world. All its members are professors at Duke, where they teach instrumental lessons, coordinate and coach chamber music, and perform across campus in concert halls, libraries, dormitories and classrooms.
