Deliberative Dialogue

Join the Duke Service-Learning team and members of the North Carolina LiteracyCorps for the first in a series of lunchtime discussions focused on "deliberative" dialogue. Deliberative dialogue is a reflection tool that offers participants the opportunity to explore social constructs and questions through multiple perspectives and personal experience.
The first of the series will focus on the National Issues Forums Institute (NIFI) model of deliberative public dialogue with the goals of:
deeper understanding of an issue and the tensions within it
insight and awareness into different points of view
determining tradeoffs your group is willing to accept-or not
creating a starting point for citizen action, both individual and collective
community informed, effective guidance for policymakers
In this session, participants will learn about tools for facilitating an NIFI dialogue in a class or training, as well as participate in a deliberative dialogue session on the topic: Youth and Opportunity: What do we do for future generations to thrive? Read the Issues Guide HERE. Lunch is provided!
