Our Story: A Visual Movement Project on Black Hair
Our Story: A Visual Movement Project on Black Hair shares the unique stories of Black hair through dance, choreography, and video. Throughout history, Black hair tells a lot about who a person is and where they come from. Today, hair is still a sacred part of Black people's identity within the African Diaspora. This video creates an immersive experience for the viewer as the hair stories are expressed through various dance styles. The stories in the video are from interviews with Black undergraduate students at Duke University. These narratives become the stories or music for the dancers. The dancers are not instructed to move any certain way. They interrupt the story given to them through the dancer's personal movement and style choice. Our Story: A Visual Movement Project on Black Hair will be presented on April 25th in Rubinstein Arts Center Room 124 at 6 pm.
