Facility history, borrowed from the Duke University Archives:
Alumni Memorial Gymnasium was erected in 1922-1923 with funds from alumni and friends of the college as a memorial to the Trinity University men killed in World War I. The building featured a gymnasium and swimming pool and was also used for dances and other social functions.
Today, Alumni Memorial Gymnasium sits at the heart of Brodie Recreation Center. A 31,000-square-foot addition to the original structure was completed in 1996 and the entire complex was renamed after the 7th president of the university, H. Keith H. Brodie, and his wife, Brenda.
