CEE Seminar - Building Microbiomes
Sponsor(s): Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE)
Both beneficial and detrimental impacts to human health can result from microbial exposures in the built environment. Human exposures to indoor bacteria, fungi, and viruses are mediated by physical processes including inhalation, deposition, resuspension, surface contact, and human and animal interactions. As the identities and functions of beneficial human microbes emerge and are added to the list of known detrimental/pathogenic microbes, the consequences of building design, operation, and function in mediating human microbial exposure must be better understood in order to maintain the health of building occupants.
