God's Got You: A Concert by Student Groups
Two student groups, United in Praise and Something Borrowed Something Blue, present this joint concert with the theme "God's Got You."
Admission is free.
United in Praises traces its roots to the mid-60s, a time when Duke did not openly embrace cultural and ethnic diversity. At that time, the Modern Black Mass Choir was organized in a local church for Duke's Black students; it was then reorganized as a Duke student group in 1972. Sometimes referred to as The Black Mass Choir, the group performed throughout North Carolina and neighboring states in addition to hosting regular concerts on Duke campus. During the 1997-1998 academic year, the group expanded to include a praise dance ministry as well as a gospel choir and also adopted the name United in Praise to represent the diversity of the choir members and to emphasize its purpose. The group is advised by the Rev. Racquel Gill, the Chapel's minister for intercultural engagement.
Something Borrowed Something Blue is a co-ed Christian a cappella ensemble, consisting of students who love God and love to sing. Originally founded in 1969 as a Christian folk band, the ensemble adopted its current name in 1993 as a reference to weddings and the church being called the beloved bride of Christ in the Bible. The group aims to glorify God by performing a wide variety of songs that communicate the love of Christ. Their repertoire reflects aspects of God's character and includes music that has meaningfully influenced their members' lives.
