Duke Divinity School will hold a service of prayer in celebration of Juneteenth, the celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. The term Juneteenth comes from June 19, 1865, when enslaved Africans in Galveston, Texas, found out that they were free a full two-and-a-half years after the Emancipation Proclamation became official.

This year Duke Divinity School, in partnership with the Mary Lou Center and the Center for Muslim Life, will hold a service of prayer in celebration of Juneteenth.
