DukeWELL Monthly Seminar
The breath is nature's perfect antidote to stress. When we bring air down into the lower portion of the lungs, where oxygen exchange is most efficient,it triggers a cascade of relaxing physiological and psychological changes: the heart rate slows, blood pressure decreases, muscles relax, anxiety eases, and the mind calms. While everyone alive knows how to breathe, many people don't know how to breathe correctly. Taught to "suck in our stomach" and bombarded with a constant barrage of stress, we've become a society of shallow "chest breathers" who frequently experience pain in the neck, shoulders and back. Join us to learn some simple, effective breathingpractices to help relieve tension and enhance health. In this workshop you will learn how to:1) Sit and stand with good posture2) Take a relaxed abdominal breath3) Perform some simple yogic breathing practices designed to calm body and mindPre-registration is required and seats are limited.
