2012 Duke University Summer Institute on East Asia for Educators

The 10th annual Duke University Summer Institute on East Asia for K-12 educators will be conducted June 19-22. These two-day programs will provide teachers with classroom tested materials and sessions that address key content for teaching about East Asia. All About Japan: June 19 & 20, 2012 - Elementary and Middle school educators are invited to attend this program where materials and sessions will explore content and curriculum appropriate for grades K-6 and include more hands-on activities. This two-day program will feature author and museum educator Willamarie Moore and highlight her most recent book, "All About Japan: Stories, Songs, Crafts and More." Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about daily life in contemporary Japan and take away classroom ready activities. Issues in Contemporary North and South Korea: June 21 & 22, 2012 - Middle and high school educators are invited to attend this program where materials and sessions will explore content and curriculum appropriate for grades 7-12. This two-day program will feature curriculum from the Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education (SPICE) with curriculum developers Rylan Sekiguchi and HyoJung Jang. Participants will be introduced to key issues in contemporary North and South Korea through content rich curriculum sessions and presentations.Presented by APSI with support from U.S. Dept of Education Title VI grant.
