Monday, October 01, 2012
1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Sarah Nuttall and Achille Mbembe
Cultural Anthropology 2012-13 speaker series

The series addresses questions of urbanism, modernity, and global interconnection as these relate to cities in the global south. What sorts of life emerge from the edges of Johannesburg or Mumbai? In what ways do cities to the south embody the unevenness of capital flows through degraded infrastructure, given economies of extraction, and in the movements of populations? Further, in what ways do the predicaments of life both implicated in and excluded from such flows rest on modes of hyper-mobility, superfluity, and ingenuity?
