WHO Speaks

A joint venture of the Women's Housing Option (WHO) of Duke University and photographer Ashley Tsai, the WHO SPEAKS campaign seeks to unfold the complexities of women¿s experiences with body image. This campaign is our way of responding to the real words and phrases that have negatively impacted or provoked the WHO community. Through these photographs, we face these negative words and experiences by painting them on our body, hoping to prompt others to reflect on their own experiences. We also use these photographs to SPEAK up and ask the difficult questions that we often face silently and alone. The WHO SPEAKS campaign asks, why do women feel pressured to aspire to unrealistic and often harmful bodily ideals in the first place? Where do our ideas about what our appearance come from? When did we start believing them? How are we affected by these pressures on a daily basis? Who fits the ideal? What are the consequences if we don't? This campaign aims not to offer answers, but rather to be the impetus for us all to begin the questions. In addition, we will be RECRUITING new members to join the campaign team! So come if you would like to get involved!Also:- Meet the team behind the campaign- Make your own submissions (We will have markers and other materials)- View the posters- Discuss your experiencesFREE REFRESHMENTS!
