"Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness"

Susannah Cahalan, NYT Best-selling author

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is excited to invite Susannah Cahalan, author of NYT bestseller Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness (released in November 2012) to share about her experiences with autoimmune encephalitis, a rare disorder that attacks the brain. Hosted by Helen Egger, MD, Chief of the Division of Child and Family Mental Health, Susannah will provide a unique patient perspective on the critical role of mental health care professionals in identifying and treating this rare disease. William Gallentine, DO, a pediatric neurologist, and Heather Van Mater MD, a pediatric rheumatologist, who are Co-Directors of a new interdisciplinary clinic, the Duke Children¿s Autoimmune Brain Disease Program, will share their clinical experiences. This lecture is co-sponsored by the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Department of Pediatrics. All are welcome to join.
