Carla Nappi is the Canada Research Chair in Early Modern Studies and an Assistant Professor of History at the University of British Columbia. She is the Hurford Family Fellow at the National Humanities Center during the 2012-2013 academic year. Her research explores the practices of science, medicine, and their translation in early modern China. Her current work focuses on the texts and practices of translation from the 15th through early 19th centuries across Central and Eastern Eurasia, and looks at how literary forms and topographies of time and space shape historical narratives and the understanding of materiality therein.
