Aristotle or Astrophysics? Beyond Binaries: A Conversation with Dean Laurie Patton

On November 28th, an audience of close to 100 students, faculty, and staff members attended our discussion "What Does Integrative Learning Mean in a Liberal Arts Context? A Conversation with Dean Laurie Patton." (Video available.) Dean Patton discussed the benefits of linking specialized knowledge to a broader context, and invited the audience to share how they had woven together diverse interests and experiences. She raised the question of how Duke can better support students as they move beyond accumulating experiences to reflecting on those experiences and creating purposeful educational pathways that integrate academic and co-curricular learning. We are thrilled that Dean Patton has agreed to join us in a follow-up conversation on March 29th, in which we will reflect on how to move "Beyond Binaries."Lunch will be served.
