Faculty Resources for Integrative Learning
If cognitive dissonance signals the absence of congruence between ideas and/or experiences, and if community engaged experiences frequently involve disorienting dilemmas that lead to such dissonance, what is a faculty member to do? In What does integrative learning mean in a liberal arts context? Dean Laurie Patton argued that integration can result from our work to "put it all together." Integration won¿t resolve all dilemmas, but it can point us¿and students--to those questions that animate our interests and commitments, facilitating both/and rather than either/or thinking. As the semester draws to a close, this workshop will share strategies for facilitating integration of dissonant experiences. Lunch will be served.
