Martin A. Miller is Professor in the Department of History and holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies at Duke. He has published books on Peter Kropotkin, the origins of the Russian revolutionary emigration in Europe, and the influence of Freudian theory in the Soviet Union. His new book, "The Foundations of Modern Terrorism: State, Society and the Dynamics of Political Violence," has just been issued by Cambridge University Press
