12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Farr Curlin, MD
Humanities in Medicine Lecture

Lunch provided at NOONTalk begins at 12:15PMAlthough multiple patient-centered movements have brought attention to the influence of culture and religion on patients' experiences of illness, we have tended to think of clinicians as practically interchangeable representatives of one biomedical profession, trained to set aside the undue influence of their "personal values." Farr Curlin will describe a series of studies that chart the influence of physicians' religious characteristics on their clinical practices. In light of these connections, he will consider how the profession of medicine may be affected by renewing and deepening its engagement with religious traditions and practices.Farr A. Curlin, MD is associate professor of medicine at the School of Medicine, University of Chicago and co-director of the Program on Medicine and Religion at the University of Chicago.
