John G. Looney, MD, MBA is a Professor of Psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center. He was recruited to Duke in 1986 as Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, with a mandate to expand the range of clinical services and to develop research endeavors. Currently he oversees the substance abuse treatment program for young people, and directs the Duke Forensic Psychiatry Associates (the Forensic SWAT Team). He is starting the Duke Program for the Study of the American College Student (based on the largest existing research database about college student life). Dr. Looney is Board certified in an unusually broad array of skills and knowledge. He is the author of numerous journal articles, and he is the author, editor or coeditor of multiple books and monographs, including twelve annual volumes of Adolescent Psychiatry. He is a past president of the American Society for Adolescent Psychiatry and is a Fellow of psychiatry honorary organizations such as the American College of Psychiatrists, the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry and the Benjamin Rush Society.
