Eric and Janet Chavez Santiago

Come learn about Mexico's Days of the Dead through this exhibit, which incorporates photography and video alongside a student-designed mural and traditional altar. Photographs were shot by 7 individuals from across the United States and Canada while in the villages of Teotitlan del Valle and Xoxocotlan, Oaxaca during the 2011 Days of the Dead. Duke students will fashion a 12-foot altar in traditional Oaxaca style, and will work alongside local elementary school students on a mural of images. Text panels will provide the history of the celebration, and video and other elements will highlight images and articles on present-day practice in the United States. The exhibit is a student/staff/faculty/community collaboration - if you would like to be involved, please contact jennysw@duke.edu.
