Debate on the Ethics of Fossil Fuel Use

The Program on Values and Ethics in the Marketplace presents a debate "Fossil Fuels: Improving the Planet for Humans OR Necessitating Action to Save the Planet from Humans?" Dr. Bill McKibben, renowned educator, environmentalist, and author of a dozen books on the environment, will argue that the use of fossil fuels is detrimental to the planet. He is a founder of the grassroots climate campaign 350.org, which has coordinated 15,000 rallies in 189 countries since 2009. Time Magazine called him "the planet's best green journalist" and the Boston Globe said in 2010 that he was "probably the country's most important environmentalist." On the other side is Alex Epstein of the Center for Industrial Progress, who will defend the use of fossil fuels as they improve human life. He was a Junior Fellow at the Ayn Rand Institute, specializing in business issues, and works as a corporate speaker and consultant for the oil, coal, and natural gas industries. His op-ed articles have been published in hundreds of newspapers and magazines around the world, including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and Investor¿s Business Daily. He is also a contributing writer for The Objective Standard.
