Fresh Docs is a works-in-progress film series presented by the Center for Documentary Studies and the Southern Documentary Fund. The idea is to watch these not-quite-finished films as a community, and then give constructive feedback to the filmmakers.Next up in the series is "Bringing It Home," codirected by Linda Booker and Blaire Johnson: Hemp--it's not just for hippies anymore. Today you can make salad dressings and buildings with it. And despite all the jokes about "getting high," industrial hemp is a non-psychoactive plant, grown in 30 other industrialized nations but currently prohibited in the U.S. Legalization advocates say hemp can help American farmers, create jobs, and replace thousands of harmful petrochemical and synthetic products. Bringing It Home explores the question "Why aren't we growing it here?" while telling hemp's history and introducing us to business owners using hemp for construction, textiles, nutrition, and body care products here in North Carolina and around the globe.http://www.bringingithomemovie.com
