Rosi Braidotti - The Post Human Turn
Professor Rosi Braidotti is a Philosopher and Distinguished University Professor at Utrecht University as well as Director of the Centre for the Humanities in Utrecht. Her lecture addresses the fast-growing cluster of issues focused on what could be called the post-human predicament. It explores the extent to which a post¿humanist perspective builds upon some of the central concepts of poststructuralism, notably philosophical anti-humanism and a non-unitary vision of the subject. Attempts to displace the traditional unity and universality of the subject ¿ which had met with critical resistance on the part of humanist thinkers ¿ constitute the point of departure for a number of philosophical reflections that define the posthuman not only in terms of anti or post-humanism, but also as post-anthropocentrism. The displacement of the centrality of the human itself is the central idea in posthuman thought. Rather than perceiving this as a loss of cognitive self¿mastery and ethical decency, she argues that the posthuman condition helps us make sense of and find a new moral compass within, our globalised culture.
