The Geopolitics of Energy

A panel of experts will focus on the challenges - especially political and economic - that Brazil faces in seeking to manage the next stage of development in its energy sector. Emphasis will be placed on Brazil's energy industry framework, politically, economically and regulatory, as well as the Brazilian government's challenge of assuring that the exploitation of new off shore reserves benefits all of Brazil and not just the states closest to the resources, and its biofuels and ethanol production.Part of the Center for Canadian Studies' initiative on "The Geopolitics of Energy in the Western Hemisphere," made possible through a grant by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Duke University Office of the Provost, co-sponsored by the Duke University Energy Initiative, the Duke University Center for International Studies, the Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies, the Fuqua School of Business, and the Sanford Energy and Environment Club.
