A Conversation with Joel Kaplan, Facebook VP of US Public Policy
Joel Kaplan, Facebook Vice President of US Public Policy, will discuss with Duke Program in American Grand Strategy director Peter Feaver the challenges and complexity of engaging in public policy-making as a corporation. His experience prior to working at Facebook includes time in the White House (2006-2009) and serving as Executive Vice President for Public Policy and External Affairs for Energy Future Holdings Corp.Joel Kaplan is Vice President, US Public Policy at Facebook. In this role, he oversees the company's relationships with policymakers at the federal and state levels as well as government agencies and NGOs. In addition, he manages Facebook's public policy development and helps to develop understanding of and support for Facebook, its products and its positions on public policy matters.Kaplan joined EFH from the White House, where he served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy under President George W. Bush from 2006-2009. He was responsible for the development and implementation of the Administration's policy agenda.
