Open Panel: The Duke-Cambridge Consultation on James MacMillan's St. Luke Passion

Duke Initiatives in Theology and the Arts (DITA) at Duke Divinity School will host The Duke-Cambridge Consultation for a public panel discussion on working with Scottish composer James MacMillan on his St. Luke Passion. The newly commissioned composition will have its U.S. premiere on Palm Sunday (April 13) in Duke Chapel.Panelists will include: Duke Divinity School faculty Dean Richard Hays, George Washington Ivey Professor of New Testament; Ray Barfield, associate professor of pediatrics and Christian philosophy; Jeremy Begbie, Thomas A. Langford Research Professor of Theology and DITA director; Kavin Rowe, associate professor of New Testament; and Ellen Davis, Amos Ragan Kearns Distinguished Professor of Bible and Practical Theology.Other panelists will be: MacMillan, composer and conductor; David Ford, Religious Professor of Divinity at the University of Cambridge, England; Irish poet and linguist Micheal O'Siadhail; and Alan Torrance, Professor and Chair of Systematic Theology at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland.The panel discussion is part of "Sounding the Passion: Encounters in Poetry, Theology, and Music," a series of April 9-13 events culminating in the premiere of MacMillan's stunning new St. Luke Passion in Duke Chapel.
