Survivors on the Yoga Mat: Lessons about Trauma

This talk focuses on what trauma survivors (from addictions, loss of loved ones, sexual abuse, race injury, war, accidents, incarceration, etc.) can teach us about resilience and healing. Includes attention to treatment strategies (meditation, yoga, writing) for short and long term healing. The session will include ways of keeping our own wholeness in mind as healers, clinicians, etc. Located in the Duke Diet and Fitness lecture room.Becky Thompson, award-winning writer, poet, activist, yogi, and Chair of sociology at Simmons College in Boston will share her groundbreaking work on the role that yogic philosophy and practice can play in healing personal and systemic trauma created through racial and social inequality.
