China Meets the US: Joint Ventures in Higher Education
An interactive panel presented by the Kunshan Student Ambassador Council and the Duke East Asia Nexus:
The relationship between the US and China is arguably the most important bilateral relationship of the 21st century. In the past ten years, this connection has developed in the areas of economics and the environment. In more recent years, a new interest realm has emerged between the two nations: Sino-US universities. American universities are beginning to view China as a platform for exporting the liberal arts model.
Why are Western institutions -- U.S.-based ones, specifically -- going into China, and why are some Chinese universities so eager to be on board? What are the opportunities and constraints that come with the current approach? Lastly, how might the proliferation of joint ventures affect innovative education in an increasingly globalized world?
Three panelists will answer these questions and help us determine what values this new-style education could add to the US-China relationship and to students and educators around the globe.
