"Where Are We Going, and How Did I Get in this Handbasket?: One Approach to Teaching Adults"

The residents in the Duke Psychiatry Residency Training Programs traditionally select one Honored Professor each year to celebrate for "enduring dedication to teaching and lasting contributions to trainee learning." The 2015-2016 Honored Professor is Elena Perea, MD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Perea completed her undergraduate education at Wake Forest University, receiving her bachelor's degree in Anthropology, and she remains a Demon Deacon at heart. She sees a therapist for this affliction. She earned her MD at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and remained there for general psychiatry residency and child fellowship, as well as a faculty appointment prior to migrating north on 15-501 to take a position at Duke. Her primary interests are medical education, consult-liaison psychiatry in the medical hospital and the emergency room, and delirium. In her spare time, she wrangles her twin sons with her wonderful husband and is a competitive equestrian. She has been known to play the trombone from time to time, as well.
