Born in 1964 in Burlington, Vermont, Artist Michael Oatman has been teaching and making art for over 30 years. Early positions at Phillips Academy, Harvard, The University of Vermont and SUNY Albany lead to employment in the School of Architecture at Rensselaer where he has been since 1999. He has been involved in thesis, the PIP studio (Production, Installation, Performance), history/theory courses, design studios, travel programs in Rome and Ahmedabad, and has coordinated the first-year sequence. He moved to Troy in 1989 to study at the University at Albany, earning his MFA in painting. His BFA is from Rhode Island School of Design. Cinema and conceptual art are special topics of research within architecture. His architecture students have collaborated with local industries, filmmakers and renowned performing artists.

He has exhibited his installations, videos and large-scale collages internationally, and at significant American venues such as MASS MoCA, The Tang Museum, The Kitchen, The University of Vermont, The University of Wyoming, The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, The DeCordova and The Aldrich, to name a few.

Talk will take place in the Nasher University Conference Room at the Nasher Museum. Free and open to the public.
