Data without impact: when evidence and politics collide
Sponsor(s): Forum for Scholars and Publics
Join the Forum for Scholars and Publics at 011 Old Chem on Friday, Feb. 7 for a lively discussion as Philip Cook and Billy Pizer, two economists from Duke's Sanford School of Public Policy, talk about the challenges and rewards of conducting research on issues of profound public concern. Both scholars have found themselves in the middle of heated public debates. What does their experience tell us about the capacity of politically-charged discussions to embrace the findings of scientific research? What can we learn from them about the ability of researchers to engage productively with public policy? Come have lunch and find out. The discussion will be from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m., with lunch served starting at 11:45 a.m.
