Readers responded with a flood of letters to the editor, and more than 350 comments on Kristof's blog. Academics jumped on Twitter and offered a firestorm of counterexamples under the hashtag #engagedacademics.Many of you have just returned from the biggest NESCent outreach event of the year, the Darwin Day Roadshow. Others maintain active blogs, or tweet daily to hundreds of followers. Some of you have even written popular books. So what do you think: Cheap shot?
