Duke Election Discussion Series On the Issues: Income Inequality
The fifth session of Duke University's Discussion Election Series will focus on income inequality and its impact on the upcoming midterm elections. As the nation marks the 50th anniversary of Lyndon B. Johnson's "war on poverty," we'll take a closer look at the state of economic equality in the United States and whether attempts by both parties to push economic proposals -- such as raising the minimum wage and giving equal pay to men and women workers -- are influencing voters' opinions as we approach the November elections. Leading the discussion on Duke's campus will be William A. Darity, Jr., the Samuel DuBois Cook Professor of public policy, African and African American studies and economics; and the director of the Duke Consortium on Social Equality. Joining from Duke in Washington will be Dr. Valerie Rawlston Wilson, the director of the Program on Race, Ethnicity, and the Economy at the Economic Policy Institute.
