Caring for the Confused Patient
Duke NICHE Gero-Intensive: Caring for the Confused Patient (Course Number: DMIE0153) will take place at Duke University School of Nursing in Pearson Room 1103. The purpose of the Duke NICHE sponsored Gero-Intensive continuing education program is to increase clinicians, competence and confidence in the unique care needs of older adults. Who should attend? RNs, Physical and Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists and Pharmacists providing care for older adults. Duke Experts will present topics including: (a) Dementia: Structural and chemical changes in the brain and their impact on cognitive function; (b) Types of Dementia Affecting Mood, Memory and Mobility; (c) Communication and Cueing Skills in Dementia Care; (d) Delirium: An Interprofessional Responsibility; (e) Distinguishing Delirium from Dementia; and (f) Planning Interdisciplinary Care for the Confused Patient.
