MEMS Seminar: Questions of Interest to the ARO Complex Dynamics and Systems Program
This seminar will give an overview of research topics of interest to the Complex Dynamics and Systems program within the Army Research Office (ARO). The talk will focus on key questions of interest to particular domains with a few examples of particularly exciting supported research programs. As one of the largest programs at ARO, there will be substantial breadth of scientific domains presented. Research areas from terradynamics to embodied cognition to nonlinear mechanical meta-structures will be surveyed. A few remarks and observations on scientific creativity, inspiration, and communication will be featured as well.
Samuel Stanton is a program manager in the Mechanical Sciences Division at the Army Research Office. He earned a B.S. in Aerospace and Astronautical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2004 and an M.S. and Ph.D. from Duke University in 2008 and 2011, respectively. His current research interests concern the effects of nonlinear inertial terms on the vibration of mechanical and electromechanical systems.
