Abstract:
This talk delves into the intriguing realms of exotic quantum magnets, including quantum spin liquids, quantum phase transitions, and topological phenomena within condensed matter physics. Quantum phase transitions represent profound shifts in material properties driven by quantum fluctuations at absolute zero temperature, holding the promise of unveiling novel quantum states. Quantum spin liquids, on the other hand, are exotic quantum phases where particle spins remain in an entangled and disordered state even at very low temperatures, presenting opportunities for revolutionary applications in quantum computing. Additionally, we explore topological phenomena, which involve unique material behaviors resilient to small perturbations and are characterized by topological invariants. Such phenomena hold immense potential for advanced electronics and quantum technologies due to their robustness against defects and disorder. This presentation integrates materials design, synthesis, thermodynamics characterization, and advanced neutron and X-ray scattering techniques to unravel the intricate properties of these quantum states, shedding light on their fundamental physics and their applications in emerging technologies.
