Partnering with African American Churches to Promote Mental Health Equity
Dr. Sidney Hankerson is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Columbia University, Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. His federally-funded research focuses reducing racial/ethnic mental health disparities. He helped create a Community Coalition for Mental Health that fosters community-academic partnerships to reduce mental health stigma and promote social justice. Dr. Hankerson participated in President Obama's White House Dialogue on Men's Health and was a panelist for the White House's 'Making Healthcare Better' series. He was recently appointed to the American Psychiatric Association's Council of Minority Mental Health and Health Disparities and the Council of Faith and Community Partnerships.
