Voting Rights are Human Rights: A Joint Faculty-Student Zoom Teach-In

Voting Rights are Human Rights
Wednesday, August 26, 2020
5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Let's face it: 2020 will be an election like no other. Our country has never had to conduct an election under circumstances as dire for participation and fair and timely counting as that of 2020. And never have the policies at stake been as important for the issues young voters say they care most about: the future of the economy, hence job prospects; climate change; policing and systemic racism; health care and reproductive justice; and college debt/affordable higher education, to name a few.

That is why Duke faculty and students are coming together to present this brief, informational event at the start of the semester to ensure that all Duke students, faculty and staff are able to vote and have their votes counted to shape the future of our country.

Please join us for this critical one-hour discussion of why voting matters so much, how to register in North Carolina, and how to volunteer to help in other ways with the coming election if you are interested.

Speakers include:
Moderator, Nancy MacLean, William H. Chafe Professor of History and Public Policy
Rachel Spring, You Can Vote
Lauren Howell, '21: Why we must vote.
Bryant Lewis, '21: How we make our voices heard.
Mo Khatami, '22: When and where we should vote.
