Women, Politics, and the Electability Myth: An Insiders' Perspective on Running for Office and Governing
A record number of women ran for office in 2018 and many more are expected to do so in 2020. But what is it really like to be a candidate and then govern as a woman? What constraints do women candidates face, and what are the opportunities? And what does the recent "year of the woman" herald for the future elections, especially in North Carolina? Join us for a lively discussion with leading local politicians: Durham Mayor Pro Tempore Jillian Johnson PPS'03, N.C. Rep. Marcia Morey and Congressional candidate Gina Collias. Panelists will discuss their personal experiences and share their observations about the gender gap in national and North Carolinian politics. Hart Leadership Program students will moderate.
