Default: Argentina’s Trial of the Century

Join us in the School of Law, room 3043, at 4 pm on Wednesday, October 2, to hear from Gregory Makoff about Argentina's 2001 default on $100 billion in sovereign bonds. Space is limited.
Makoff will tell the riveting story of Argentina's unparalleled and protracted sovereign debt litigation, which ran from the December 2001 default on $100 billion in bonds to the 2016 settlement of hundreds of cases-the subject of his 2024 book Default. A great story of politics, law and economics.
Greg Makoff worked in banking for 21 years, advising companies and governments on debt restructuring, and is currently a senior fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School. He holds a BS in physics and political science from MIT and a PhD in physics from the University of Chicago.
