Bringing Congress to the People: Transparency and Citizen Engagement in the Social Media Age Featuring U.S. Representative Jeff Jackson (NC-14)
Before he was a social media sensation, Congressman Jeff Jackson served as an Army officer, an assistant district attorney, and one of the youngest state senators in North Carolina history. Now, as the representative for North Carolina's 14th Congressional District, he has attracted national attention and acclaim for his innovative use of TikTok and other social media platforms as tools for transparency and citizen engagement. His plain-spoken and unsparing portrayals of Congress regularly draw millions of viewers and subscribers, educating the public about how the institution functions and inviting them to participate in current policy debates. Jackson serves on the House Armed Services and Science, Space, and Technology committees and holds leadership roles in several caucuses, including as Vice Chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force and Vice Chair of the New Democrat Coalition's Artificial Intelligence Working Group.
Polis is thrilled to welcome Congressman Jackson to Duke for a conversation about public service, citizen engagement, and the future of politics in North Carolina and the nation, moderated by Polis Director and Associate Professor of Public Policy Deondra Rose. The event will include a Q&A period with the audience. This event is free and open to all.
