A Conversation with Rabbi Shai Held
Shai Held, one of the foremost Jewish thinkers and educators at work today - will speak about his new book, JUDAISM IS ABOUT LOVE (Farrar Straus and Giroux 2024), in conversation with Ellen Davis and Kavin Rowe of the Divinity School. Writing with honesty, nuance, and pastoral sensitivity, Rabbi Held shows that love is foundational and constitutive of true Jewish faith, animating its distinctive perspectives on injustice and protest, grace, family life, responsibilities to our neighbors and even our enemies, and chosenness. Rabbi Held avoids dogmatism as he draws on a wide range of Jewish sources through the centuries and while also interacting with philosophers and Christian theologians. His clear, paradigm-shifting argument speaks to a wide audience of religious thinkers and non-specialists, both Jewish and Christian.
