2023 SGM Wellness Symposium

To kickoff the 2023 Duke Sexual and Gender Minority (SGM) Wellness Symposium, and in partnership with the American Psychiatric Association Foundation (APAF), Duke University School of Medicine is pleased to announce a special screening of CURED, an Emmy-nominated documentary that highlights a pivotal but little-known moment in LGBTQ and medical history when activists and psychiatrists challenged a formidable institution - and won a crucial victory in the modern movement for LGBTQ equality and dignity.

On Sunday, September 17th at 2 pm ET, we will host an in-person screening of the one-hour film, followed by a panel discussion featuring the project's co-director Patrick Sammon in conversation with lesbian psychiatrist and Duke alum ('74) Dr. Margie Sved; local community member Michael Penny; and UNC Ph.D. student Dee Williams. Recent Duke graduate Sophia Chimbanda will moderate the conversation. The discussion will begin at 3 pm ET.

If you're unable to attend the live event, the 80-minute version of the film will be available to stream online from September 17-23. Check back after the event for a link.
